Quick Answers to Bankruptcy Questions & Understand How Bankruptcy Laws Affect You

will bankruptcy claim erase a debt from auto impound yard?

bankruptcy law

Hi i have a debt gone to collection from a car of mine that was impounded by the city and sold at auction. they charged me for 30 day storage and towing and stuff.
by bankruptcy law i can discharge a storage fee and such but i cannot discharge a fine imposed for traffic tickets and criminal penalties.
so i don’t know if a debt to a police garage is a bill or a fine.

thanx, louie

  1. Frank Castle Says:

If you do that you will be flagged by the Police.

This means you will be pulled over and over and over.

If you ever make a mistake like speeding, jaywalking or driving without a license they will come after you hard.

I suggest you to pay all your fines.

You don’t want to mess with the Police.

It’s a good question. If the fee is similar to that charged by a private company, you have a good argument that it is not a fine. But actually, debts owed to governmental units less than 3 years old also may be non-dischargeable. So the time your debt was incurred is an important factor too.

    See 11 USC sec 508(a)(8)
