Why is Congress spending its time and effort passing anti flag burning laws and regulating online gambling?
When it should be dealing with the impending bankruptcy of Social Security and Medicare, when it should be worried about illegal immigrants, when it should be dealing with the brain drain and export of American jobs overseas, when we’ve become embroiled in overseas wars that have destabilized parts of the world and appear to have no end and we are running up huge deficits? Given these big issues why is flag burning and online gambling of national importance?

They are trying to focus on issues that motivate their ‘core’ because they feel they are in trouble for the Nov. election.
Rove is still trying the his old tactic of painting all democrats as ‘flag burning’, ‘gay loving’, ‘proillegal immigration.”

Because it’s an election year. They always come up with these stupid bills near elections because it takes people’s minds off the more important things.

You can bet that there is money in it for them.

I think if they spent their time doing what the majority of Americans (legal, voting Americans, that is) want them to do, like securing the border and deporting all illegal immigrants, they wouldn’t have to worry about flag burning.

Why do they deal with so many of the things that they do? Because it is of importance to someone.
I agree with the anti-flag burning legislation that they tried to pass. Untill people learn to respect something or someone then there is no respect for anything and anyone.

They’re trying to rally in their voting base and show them they’re doing something constructive. It’s a lot like how some workers do meaningless tasks to show the boss that they’re busy when in fact they’re just goofing around.

The are a lot of do nothing fat cats that simply want to get to their fat pensions. They are afraid for the most part to take a stand on any important issues. They distance themselves from anyone who has the guts to talk about real issues. Do you remember the headlines the day before 9-1-1. It was about them setting up to take money out of the social security fund. Some smokescreen huh?

I for one think flag burning is very disrespectful! If I saw someone doing that, I’d beat the living sh*t out of them!

Because whenever Congress can’t agree on something they pass a bunch of pointless less meaningful bills to make it look like they are actually doing something and earning the ridiculous amounts of money they get paid to do their posh jobs.
Flag burning is a non-issue, although I don’t agree with it, passing a bill making it illegal is a clear violation of the first amendment. The same goes for policing the internet. If online gambling is outlawed indirectly by making credit card payments for gambling illegal then that would just open the door to them taxing the internet like they own it. Its all garbage.
Instead the hundreds of dollars I spend in Social Security taxes each paycheck are earning a whopping -5.6% in interest each month. Can’t wait till I turn 65 and cash that check in!

IT’S CALLED DIVERSION. SPEAK ABOUT MOM, THE FLAG AND APPLE PIE AND YOU CAN WALK A SAFE PATH. VERY FEW WILL ATTACK THESE ISSUES.

Because they are over paid and under-worked. Congress was never intended to be a full time job. Members of Congress were only supposed to meet for a few months out of the year to address specific issues of concern. The rest of the the year they were supposed to be at home with their constituents and working real jobs.

They can think & deal with more than one thing at the time. They are working on SS & Medicare which are not on the brink of bakruptcy. Total overdramatization. Working on illegals – incl. building fence. Lower our salaries & jobs will stay in US. It is free commerce why would business not want higher profits & the US goverment has no business in private enterprise. We are free not goverment controlled – that is USSR. The flag is our national symbol – in war time many of us have issues with flag buring esp. by illegals. On line gambling is ruining a lot of lives including teenagers & college students. They are overseas companies taking advantage of our youth.

Aww common
They already figured out that Iraq thing…it’s totally over.
They did a great job figuring out immigration.
No child left behind is working out really well.
Social Security is fine.
If we can just stop flag burning and stop the gays from getting married all of our countries problems will be solved.
