You are questioning this as if it was the majority of the police that participate in this code. A lot of people it seems believes the media, they see stories about a corrupt cop or a cop that abused someone, but statistically this happens at such a small rate. You rarely see all the stories about officers saving lives because those stories don't tune in viewers/listeners.

For the majority the pysch exam does weed out most of the people but every system will have its percentage of errors. On a larger scale officers do set good examples for the communities, so try not to be ego centric and rather open your mind to a more global perspective.

Actually they do testify against them, they normally don't make any public statements because it is against dept policy to make public statements about any on going case

It is an unwritten and twisted moral issue, but this does indeed exist. You don't rat on your own, or there will be dire consequenses. Psychological exams ared not perfect, and people do slip through the cracks, like everything else in the bureaucracy.

It's stupid. If we refused to give info. about something illegal one of our friends did, we would be arrested for harboring information, or whatever they want to call it. They're cops, they are above us all and they have to answer to nobody damn it, because they're underappreciated for the work they do! Ha ha ha, who isn't!

Mr. potato head is right. Rich, poor, young or old, all walks of life you will find corruption but you will also find those who are dedicated to treating people right. I have a friend who quit the police force because he couldn't stand the way they abused their power. They should have to submit to what every other citizen has to that way they know humility. Around here right now a judge was just arrested for a dui and they aren't sure if he can keep his job. lol, how is he going to hand down judgements on duis if he gets one hisself. Conflict of interest is all over they don't know what to do cause the chief justice was in the passenger seat.

Police have a totally different culture, that not many people understand, They have a code of silence to protect them from scrutiny and judgment of others who don't understand what they truly go through in their jobs.

because of the nature of their job, they tend to have an "us against them" mentality. as such they tend to stick together out of sheer self-preservation. don't fret tho, the "thin blue line" isn't impenetrable. that's why cops go to jail all the time
