What is your feedback of this essay to making smoking against the law?
Connecticut needs a ban on smoking. Why should secondhand smoking punish U.S. citizens who don’t smoke because America wants the taxes they put on tobacco companies? Smoking affects everyone. Also, the burning of materials pollutes the environment. Smoking kills people, even people who don’t smoke. Addictions are extremely bad for people. People can go bankrupt because they feel they need to buy cigarettes. It also destroys the physical health. Finally, every time I see someone smoking, I literally have to hold my breath because the smell is so bad and torturous. In conclusion, smoking should be against the law both in public and nonpublic.
First of all, America doesn’t need the taxes of tobacco. If a law on smoking is truly unavailable, the government needs to keep raising the taxes on tobacco companies until they are forced to go out of business. Is America really greedy enough to let lives be taken by smoking and secondhand smoking just to make revenue? I know for a fact that the majority of the population that doesn’t smoke would rather have higher taxes on everything else than have people smoke around them. Therefore, these taxes shouldn’t mean anything and smoking should be forbidden.
There isn’t one person in this world that isn’t affected by smoking, whether they smoke or not. Everyone’s lungs are getting destroyed because of smokers. It’s not fair to those who are smart enough not to smoke. Scientists have proven that secondhand smoking is just as bad as firsthand smoking. Therefore, the U.S. government is letting people die when the cause of death can be prevented. Also, babies, toddlers, and young children are affected by secondhand smoking. They can die because of this. It’s not fair to these children, and it’s not fair to others who don’t want smoking ruining their life. So smoking is not fair to those who don’t like a whiff of smoke.
Smoking pollutes the environment. I’ve learned through school that anything that is burning pollutes the environment. What good are the programs who try and help the environment get better with global warming and keeping the land, air, and water clean if there are going to be smokers? I thought the world was trying to keep global warming down to a minimum. Scientific studies prove that more destructive storms will occur as the earth warms up. In the long run, this pollution affects smokers and nonsmokers in the long run.
There is nothing good about an addiction, especially to a bad habit. Students addicted to smoking can be as young as junior high school students. Out of the adult population, 20% or 45 million are addicted. The population of only junior high school students that smoke is 12%. Can you imagine the percentage of high school and college students that smoke? Also, adults that are addicted to smoking can lead themselves into financial trouble. They may spend too much money on cigarettes that they don’t have enough to pay off their debts. This can lead to bankruptcy. In the end, these people are running on the government’s money. Therefore, this addiction is the worst addiction possible.
People’s physical health is destroyed when smoking. Common diseases such as asthma, lung cancer, gingivitis, bronchitis, lip disease and glue ear can be caused by smoking. Also, the majority of America is obese. If you think about it, smoke kills peoples’ lungs, making them unable to exercise as proficient as they would be able to without lung damage. You can jump to the conclusion that smoking causes obesity in peoples’ lives. Other physical problems include shortness of breath, lack of energy, bad concentration, stained teeth, premature wrinkles, nicotine stained gums, teeth and fingernails, damaged taste buds, and damaged circulation. Therefore, there are countless bad results of smoking.
Finally, I, personally, cannot stand the smell of a smoker. I can smell whether a person smokes or spends time with smokers. I have to hold my breath. I will burst into monumental coughing when I smell it. I don’t want anything happening to my lungs because of someone else. It’s not fair to me and it is repulsive. I get dizzy and lightheaded. I also feel like I’m about to pass out if I can’t avoid the smell. Now, this is just myself, personally. I have friends who feel the same way and do the same things. How many other people do you think go through the same thing?
In conclusion, smoking should be prohibited. The tax revenue America gets from tobacco companies isn’t fair. Everyone is affected by smoking. The smoke pollutes the environment and hurts the earth. Smoking can kill everyone, even innocent people who don’t smoke. This addiction can cause bankruptcy. The physical health of people can be destroyed by smoke and secondhand smoke. Finally, I feel as if I’m about to pass out when I smell a smoker. Please consider making smoking against the law.
Please also write if you do smoke or not.
Smoking has been proven not to add happiness to life. Also, smoking has been proved to harm people.
hecate wylde- What does your meal with annoying children have to do with killing others? I want to take this internationally. I despise smokers for the reasons I included in my article.
I do not care about the others who do drugs and drink. That doesn’t affect me. People doing these things is bad for themselves and does not hurt my body or health in anyway. If there is to be a car accident by a drunk driver, for all I know, that person wasn’t drunk, the accident was caused by something else.
About the taxes on cigarettes, it’s a reason to stop smoking. Every smoker there is in the world hurts me, and that’s not right and it’s unfair to me.

The government’s criteria for a drug being legal is that it must not be harmful, and it must have medicinal value. That alone is justification for cigarettes (and alcohol for that matter) to be illegal.
Also, tobacco causes more harm, both physically and financially to our society than all illegal drugs combined, no lie. Please look it up.

How far do you want to take this whole thing anyway.
