Quick Answers to Bankruptcy Questions & Understand How Bankruptcy Laws Affect You

Los angeles sheriffs department?

bankruptcy law

i have 2 questions regarding my father who is 44 and wants to apply for the Los Angeles County Sheriffs, i was unable to find an age cap for those seeking a career with the department. also, my father did apply for lapd almost 5 years ago but stopped once asked for his credit report, he does have a bankruptcy and rather bad credit in general so he dropped his late age push for law enforcement, but now that im applying for C.A. he is thinking about the Sheriffs, does he stand a good chance of advancing through the employment process, i understand that it doesn’t hurt to try but im am asking this without his knowledge to see if he has any chance? does bad credit or a bankruptcy automatically disqualify one?
im sorry, C.A. stands for custody assistant, my father may be 44 but i assure you he is isn’t an old man, he goes to the gym everyday and i at times think hes still just turning 30.

He’s too old & has bad credit, not a chance of getting in.

Bad credit is not an immediately disqualifying event for most law enforcement departments. I am a former law enforcement officer and credit check shows a basis of responsibility. However, if it has been more than seven years, the bankruptcy should be off the credit reports (wife is in credit card business and knows this). If he is denied employment due to age, he has a case for age discrimination.

I’d say he should go for the job. Shoot for the stars….or in this case star/badge/etc.

I don’t get why he’s applying for the Sheriff’s dept because you are applying for C.A. is that state aide? why would that make a difference?
I’m pretty sure the age cap is 36 but you can always go online and look up the requirements.
I doubt they would decide against him because of bad credit or bakrpty. It would be the overall package and the reasons behind the bd cr etc.

He would have to go through the academy.
But there are more jobs in a police agency than a police officer. In our area they are always looking for 911 dispatchers, who are trained and fully qualified before they go on the board, or regular dispatcher, records, clerics, and multitude of other fascinating jobs. Pull up L.A.P.D. and L.A.C.S.O. and see what positions are open. the county also has a site for job openings in law enforcement. L.A. county has a lot of towns that are not in Los Angeles proper. Pull those up to. Stanislaus County in N.Cal. has an on going application. So get all the info you can, print them out and just hand them to your dad
