Quick Answers to Bankruptcy Questions & Understand How Bankruptcy Laws Affect You

In VA. I owned house before marriage. Ex wants $. Do I have to pay?

bankruptcy law

My house and mortgage were titled in my name before marriage. They stayed in my name through the marriage.

I have two questions:

1. Now we’re divorcing. Ex wants $ from house appreciation. Do I have to pay?

2. If the law says I have to pay .. is there a way to avoid it? Can I sell house? Declare bankruptcy?

Thank you all for your help.

  1. M M Says:

Its yours, unless she can prove that she helped pay that note for ex amount of years. Doesn’t matter it will be tide up in it no matter how you try to avoid it any money you collect she can get some unless… again she didn’t pay a dime on it

NO SHE WON’T GET ANY MONEY OUT OF IT IF THE MARRIAGE WAS SHORTER THAN 2 YEARS OF IF SHE HAS NOT CONTRIBUTED TO THE MORT. PAYMENT DURING YOUR MARRIAGE
