Consequences of filing bankruptcy as a law/accounting student?
I’m in my 2nd year of a 5 year accounting and law degree in Australia. Pretend I have gotten myself into serious debt (let’s say.. $60 000), and I filed bankruptcy.
How would this affect me when I graduate in november 2011? Would law firms and accounting firms not want to hire me? (Or are they not allowed to even ask me if I’m bankrupt). Also, would the professional bodies that accredit me as a lawyer/accountant upon completion of my degree, not do so due to my being bankrupt?

Same problem here, but in US. Some companies run a credit check, but they must have you sign soemthing to do it. Be upfront and tell them what happened. I didn’t and lost a potential job. Some firms do not run a credit check. It def looks bad that an accountant can’t even manage their own bills, but life happens and when you explain that it may help.
