It depends on several variables. If you are able to file a chapter 7 bankruptcy, in most cases you do not need to repay anything. They have changed the laws in the past few years making it harder to file chapter 7 bankruptcy. If you file a chapter 13 bankruptcy, typically you will have to repay a portion of the debts that you include in the bankruptcy filing. You really need to speak with a bankruptcy attorney to determine the answer to your questions. Most bankruptcy lawyers give you a free consultation to help you determine what type of bankruptcy you are able to file.
