Since the laws regarding bankruptcy were changed do we have to have an attorney file for us or can we have a paralegal do it?
Is it still as effective to go through a paralegal instead of a bankruptcy attorney or is it no longer safe to use only a paralegal?

You don’t have to have an attorney. You can file yourself if you want..don’t know that I would recommend it though.

I work for a bankruptcy attorney and I’m telling you the misses we clean up because clients decide they can file their own. You can file just make sure you file everything that is required and that your paperwork is correct and also remember you now have to go through credit counseling and debtor education. Credit Counseling must be completed prior to filing and certificate file when filing your bankruptcy, and your debtor education must be completed and filed before you are discharged or you will be dismissed.
