Why does my financial situation seem so hopeless?

bankruptcy law

My wife and I were married in June.. Our house is only 1000 sq ft and there are four of us living here with no dishwasher and the house needs some repairs. We really need a bigger house but we’re so poor we can’t afford what we already have…

Her whole paycheck goes to pay the mortgage and utilities and stuff and we have so much credit card debt that every penny I make goes to make the minimum payments on the cards… I know it’s dumb to run up the cards, but I have the wedding ring on there and a trip that we took and a bunch of deposits for the wedding reception that we were never able to have because we’re broke… Plus some money that was on her cards as well…

I don’t think we can file bankruptcy because since the new bankruptcy law we would only be able to write off about half of our credit card debts and it would be 10 years before we can get a bigger house and it would be hard to get a job and our car insurance would go way up now… I am working so hard and nothing to show

I am caught between debt consolidation and filing for bankruptcy. Either option negatively affects my credit - so does not doing anything. Also, I am concerned that I will not be able to pay off my debt through consolidation.

Is it illegal for a bank to open a business checking account to a company whose owner has a state tax lien?

We wanted to move our business checking account to another bank offering more services and were denied an account because of a state tax lien. Is this the law or is this the bank not wanting to deal with any hassle of a bank levy? The tax debt has since been put into a reorganization wage earner bankruptcy and is being paid every month. Would we be able to propose this to the new bank and have a better chance of getting an account or is just a legal matter that they cannot. The tax lien will stay on our credit report until it is completely paid (not for a while yet)

About two years ago I had about $1500.00 in debts I was young and stupid so I stopped paying the cards I had a total of 3 cards under my name. The thing is now I am financially stable and I was to fix up my credit it’s stupid to do bankruptcy because I can pay it off now. What are some options I may have? I am considering filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy but would prefer to save the cost of hiring an attorney and was wondering how difficult this would be to do on my own.

Does the law protect people who file bankruptcy from discrimination by a perspective employer?

Even if one is qualified in every way? I had to file two years ago because I lost my job due to being very ill. While I was ill, my bills piled up so high I could not pay them and filed bankruptcy. The lawyer that handled my bankruptcy told me that employers cannot discriminate against me because I filed. Is this true? I have a chance for a better job that I am well qualified for. However, the background check application said that a credit check may be done. I am OK with the background check, but the credit check will show this bankruptcy two years ago. What should I do? The man that interviewed me only asked about the background check and I told him the truth, that I had never been arrested for anything. He did not ask about the credit check.
