I went to Bankruptcy court three times with a friend of mine who is a Certified Paralegal She had assisted someone with a Chapter 13. Her Petition was pristine. There were several lawyers and their clients at the First Creditors meeting.
EVERY SINGLE one of them had something wrong with their Petitions.
My friend did not.
In fact, she has prepared several 13′s and several Chapter 7′s. Not one has had any deficiency.
(And yes, there are two attorneys in my family but they do not handle bankruptcies.
]They charge enough!!! They should be experts, don’t you agree?

getting ready to file a chapter 7 and we have an attorney, final meeting is Friday and am curious as to whether a home equity line can be added to the bankruptcy, yet we wish to pay the mortgage to keep the house, anybody familiar with the laws, give some advice, please?

I know that a few years back, a new law came in effect that if you declare bankruptcy, you still have to pay back. Is this true? If so, how long do I have to pay back? How does it work?

I recently had a free consultation with a Attorney about Chapter 7,and he gave me qoute of $1800 lawer fees plus $200 court fee. I have talked to several friends at work that have done it and have paid a lot less but most had did it before the bankroupcy laws changed.

I am still looking around for a second opinion who has been through a chapter 7 lately,and how much did it cost you.

Had a case against a major insurance company for bad faith, after four years attorney just dropped it, (all along, my attorney kept telling me to hush, for I kept telling him that the loan that was taken out on this case was going to swallow up all the money that we would get in the case due to the very high interest) now I am being sued for money that I borrowed against the law suit by one of those high interest loan companies (this loan was also incited by my attorney who felt simpathy for my plight with the sudden death of my son who was said to have been murdered I needed to travel over 3000 miles and needed the money fast.) who now is saying (after three and a half years) for a whopping total of over 100.000.00 U.S. dollars on a $3000.00 dollar loan.
This loan was going to be paid back to the lender once the case settled, but now after all this time there is so much to be owed I am forced to file bankruptcy.

what would you do, if anything?

On March 3, 2006, my employer filed chapter 11 bankruptcy for reorganization. I have been receiving long term disability payments from this company since August, 1997. As of February 28, 2006 I have not received my monthly disability check. I was told by the HR office that according to federal law under the chapter 11 bankruptcy law long term disability is not to be paid once they file for bankruptcy. Please help me to find a law that makes this corporation pay me my long term disabilty benefits. I did not receive anything regarding the bankruptcy, until April 4, 2006 and the bankruptcy was filed on Marcg 3, 2006. I do receive Social Security Permanent Long Term Disability Benefits.

I am asking you to help me. I am going to lose my home, car and everything I’ve worked very hard for. I work 60+ hrs per week as a nurse. My husband has been very ill the past 2 yrs. and has not been able to work. I attempted to file bankruptcy today but I would have to repay my debts in order to do so under the new bankruptcy laws, which I don’t understand. I cannot file bankruptcy and I cannot pay the debt I currently have. My wages are being garnished so I am losing 25% of each paycheck. I am accepting any suggestions or monetary donations. Ok, my in-laws and my Wife own our Duplex together. All their names are on the Deed for the house. The strange thing is, only my Father in-laws name is on the Mortgage. The problem is, my Mother in-law is threatening to claim Bankruptcy on us so we lose the house. She is a very sick woman with Bipolar disease and refuses to get help. So my question is, can we lose the house if they claim Bankruptcy. It would make no sense to me seeing only his name is under the Mortgage and not ours. If they did claim the Bankruptcy wouldn’t they lose their half of the house.

I may need to fill chapter 13 bankrupt. Someone told me that I can get maybe help from a seniour law student at Columbia or NYU (at least for consultation). Do anyone know where should I call? How possible this is? I am kind of desperate?
