Thinking about fleeing the country?

bankruptcy law

So, I’m drowning in debt. I’m a 25 y/o law student. I’ve just completed my first year of law school, and already know my grades aren’t going to be good enough to get one of those “great” jobs at a firm that start out at $150K/yr. I’m realistically looking at a 55K ish starting salary. With that in mind, I currently have close to $150K in student loan debt from undergrad and law school already, plus close to $30K in other debt, (which I’m working to pay off). I know I can’t discharge the student loan debt in bankruptcy, and once the payments come due, they will eat up my entire salary. This will leave me little money for rent, car, etc (basically life). So I’m seriously thinking about fleeing the country once I graduate law school and leaving it all behind. Good idea? Anyone got a better one?

Is there a way around law school?

bankruptcy law

I want to run my own consulting business as far as providing information to clients regarding wills/trust, bankruptcy, divorce/child custody modifications etc. I want to be able to do more than a paralegal (as far as being able to give more advice and be a little more credible as far as the law field goes,) but less than a lawyer(kind of like what a physician assistant is to a Doctor), if possible I would like to avoid law school. Would a Masters degree in Paralegal studies be a good option for me. How about a masters in Pre-law? If so what are some good online schools to complete my graduate studies? Please give me some good advice, I have been trying to figure this out for sometime now and am still really confused.

Thank you for your time!

This company filed bankruptcy, the couple who filed is now divorced, their company is no more, is this debt legally still owed under any law? Doesn’t this make the legal docs void?

Does the IRS reconize “a statue of limitations” when a creditor sends you a 1099 C form?

My husband filed bankruptcy in 2000 and we turned in a vehicle that was in both our names. Apparently the original creditor sold the debt to another company and they sent us both a 1099 C form this year. I never made any agreement with the creditor to repay since we returned the vehicle. I have contacted the attorney for when he filed bankruptcy and he said the violated the law and he wants to sue them on my husbands behalf however I am still stuck with the 1099 form. Is there a statue of limitations for a creditor to file this form?

I need advise. Before we got married his father asked my husband to help him financially(credit cards) with the money he had saved for my ring and wedding. My husband, then boyfriend, basically told me we might have to wait so he can help his father. I went crazy! I mean his parents have already been through bankruptcy once, they are struggling again, I believe that even tough he helped them, a year later they would of been in the same situation because they do not know how to administrate their money. Now we are married, he never helped them the way his father would of liked but they are getting worse and mu husband worries about them but my husband does help them every month by giving them money for rent. $300.00, we have our own finacial probelms, we do owe money because of the wedding, and seriously Im tired that his mother tells him how they ar struggling, it only makes him worry, she should keep her problems to herself, we already help them enough, I think. Am I selfish?

Don’t give me a “debt management” of “consolidation” solution as I will report you as a SPAMMER.

I have already begun the paperwork for Chapter 7 bankruptcy and know it will be a long hard road to fix my credit.

This is for those who have already or are in the process of filing for BK or those who know the process well, ONLY.

Fed law requires pre-filing counseling and a “certificate”. I can do the counseling class online which I prefer. What companies have people who filed BK used for pre-filing counseling and and post-discharge counseling?

AND if you think I can get around the BK with the amazing “debt consolidation company” you are about to mention, don’t… it just shows you haven’t read my question and have no idea what the process is all about. I have no other options but to file BK right now.

And please don’t preach to me about the evils of credit or bankruptcy or how great your loan co or debt consolidation co is. I’m experiencing the evils and just want my life back

Please Answer?

My mother in law bought a dell computer in Nov 2005 as a gift for my husband it was something like $1500. she paid $75 a month for 2 1/2 years. In July 2007 she decided she could no longer afford to pay all her bills (yes she does work a 40 hour a week job) so she started the bankruptcy process the bill in July 2007 was $1960 she had bought ink and a new printer during the 2 1/2 years that is the reason the amount went up. she finally went to court today She called me when she got home and said dell had sent her lawyer papers wanting her to pay $87 a month for 30 months to pay for the computer. Is this something she has to worry about?

Now that Democrats are in contro of Congress will they overturn the bankruptcy law that was passed by the GOP?

I am filling chapter 7 Bankruptcy and have an asset (my car), the value on it is more than what the South Carolina Law allows you to have. You are allowed to have $1,200 in possesion but my car is around $2,800. I cant change the title into someone else’s name, the trustee will find out, I cant put someone else’s name on the title with mine. What are other things I can do to avoid having my ONLY car taken from me, and avoid having to pay to keep it?

Anything?? HELP????
I dont know what value they use. What happens is that the trustee sends an apraiser and 3 dealers out and they say whatever they think they can get for it. And if I “Accidently” back it into a tree, Ive been through this all with my attorney, they will always think that it was done on purpose because it happens right before I file bankruptcy.
The Jeep is considered in Good Condition, it is a 1996 Jeep Cherokee Sport/Classic no dents, rust anything. 110,000 miles. 4WD, thats low miles for being 14 years old.
Sfuller94-
Thats what I was thinking. I am wondering how they are going to take your car when you need to go to work and pay your bills to have a place to stay. Yeah I saw that online today about Texa’s law on keeping cars. Wish it was like that In South Carolina

Do you think the Government should step in when hospitals refuse to treat the poor?

St. Lukes Aurora Health Care - a great hospital in WI has begun turning away people unable to pay. Mostly illegals and the homeless.

1. They are suffering finacially because of this and this is meant to stop bankruptcy.
2. Other area hospitals CLOSED for this very reason!
3. My Mom and sister are nurses, son and brother is medical sales, sister-in-law PA, and best friend a cardio surgery nurse practicioner, and 3 neighbors are Doctors. They say the welfare patients, and those unable to pay, use the hospital like a hotel and take taxis on the Government to get there. They give story after story of people coming in with no apparent problem just to get meals and be served. (shelters and meal programs are close by - just volunteered at one this week). They are the MOST demanding patients - my whole family agree.
Do you think the government should do anything - maybe like STOPPING ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION?
