I am a 28 year old high school math teacher that ran up $60,000 in gambling debt on my credit cards. I take home $2200 a month and live in California. I rent an apartment for $675 a month and own a SUV worth $2500; I am single and have no kids. I have no assets and really no way of making the monthly payments on this debt. I have an appointment to see a credit counselor soon but am not all that optimistic that they can do anything to help.

I am current on all my bills right now but I am approaching the cliff. 1 month ago I had a credit rating of 730. In an effort to get more $ to gamble with, I applied for more credit cards; the resulting inquries into my credit caused my score to drop to 650. I want to stop the financial bleeding.

Will bankruptcy threaten my chances of going to law school; besides killing my FICO score, how else will bankruptcy hurt me. Any advice would be appreciated.

The Senate has voted in FAVOR of amnesty, basically letting people become citizens by paying about $3000.00. Is that acceptable to you? Has the government started selling citizenship as a last resort before bankruptcy etc? Who exactly does the Senate think they’re representing, anyone?

Second part: By eliminating fines and penalties against employers of illegals, do you think the Senate has effectively nullified labor law as we know it?

We are filing bankruptcy due to high debt. We own our home which we are going to try to sell…if not, then we are going to do a short sale. We’ve NEVER been late on any payment (both mortgage or bills) but are struggling each month and it’s ruining our lives. My question is, every one requires a credit check these days (to rent). How do we find a place to live? I want to keep my children enrolled in the school but the other alternative would be to separate living arrangements and move to our parents homes (I wont live with my in laws & my husband wont live with mine. We can rent a house for what an apartment goes for in another city. How do we get a landlord to look past the bankruptcy and see that before it, we made every payment on time (while struggling to do so). We could easily make the rent (minus all the extra debt we had).

My mother in law died on March 9, 2008. She was a widower. She filed bankruptcy on her house what happens to the house now. There was not insurance to pay it off.

I thought Bush was involved with 2 or 3 bankruptcy issues.

ive been told that there are new laws, but im unable to find them. im trying to prove somebody wrong that they can file a bankruptcy and include all of his credit card debt. so you can include a house or car or boat but not a credit card? is this true?
